New fleet items

The rental of jeeps and cars have been going great. We did not have the July slow down as we have seen in the past.

In fact the cars are going so well we have added a 2011 Chevy Impala to the fleet. Rate will be $89.00 a day with the 300 miles a day included. Watch the web site for the addition of the new pictures soon.

Also in the coming weeks we will be adding a few more new jeeps to the fleet to rotate the older ones out.

Business has been good and steady this year and we are thankful for all the customers that have made it that way. It has been a fun summer with a lot of return customers! Hope to see more of you again soon.

White Rim Trail Update

This is the latest information from the National Park Service:

"The White Rim between Potato and Mineral Bottom is still closed."

There is a large body of water that encroached on the road between the park boundry and Mineral Bottom. The Green River's shrinkage will have little effect on this body of water. It will need to evaporate before this section of road is passable. There will be other areas including Upheaval that will need work once it dries out.

We are finally in the beginning of what looks to be a great summer for Moab. The jeeps are still in new, great condition and the rental cars are proving to be a great addition to the fleet.

It is not too late to plan your adventure in Moab. Midweek seems to be a slower time, but if you want to be here on a weekend we can make the accomodations for your jeep or car with about a week of advance planning.

This has been a mild spring, so it is not too hot... yet. However as we are getting warmer the water run off is going good and the Colorado River is full and running fast. June is a great time to take a river trip on the Moab Daily with Moab Adventure Center.

Finally, a break in the weather! Sun is out and the days are cool (for Moab). We lived through the end of world and are still here. Time to come to Moab for some fun in the sun. Starting June 1st we will extend our office hours from 7:30am to 8PM. That means you can have dinner and pick up your Jeep the night before at no extra charge!!!!

Another Day in Paradise

Yesterday was a beautiful 86 degrees of sunshine and blue skies. The spring wildflowers are blooming and the colors are lush and vibrant. You get the best of both worlds, jeeping and amazing photography opportunites abound.

I think spring is finally here, the air is cool and the Jeeping is great! If you haven't seem spring in the desert you are missing some awesome colors. Weekdays are especially nice the crowds are minimal and it's easy to get into all the great restaurants. See you in MOAB!

April Action Car Show

We are in the midst of the 19th annual April Action Car Show and town is buzzing... or rather growling with muscle cars with big V8s, hot rods, rat rods and more convertibles than you can imagine. We are sold out of jeeps today, but still have a couple for Saturday and lots for Sunday.

Come on down to Moab, check out the car show and go jeeping! Then watch the nightly cruise in the evenings. This really is one of the most fun events that Moab has to offer! If you can not make it this year plan ahead for next year. Every year it gets bigger and better.

The clocks have been set ahead for daylight savings time and that means that spring is just around the corner. We have a new fleet of jeeps and they have been modified with the lift kit and oversized tires and they are ready for rent.

There are a few jeeps left for Easter Jeep Safari and the April Action Car show so if you haven't booked a jeep or have been thinking about a first visit to Moab come on down and let us get you out on a back-country adventure.

New to Canyonlands Jeep this year are car rentals. We are offering a 4 door Malibu or a Mustang convertible for $79.00 per day and a Chrysler mini-van for $89.00 per day. We are excited about this new addition to our company and hope our customers are too.

Starting on April 1st our office hours will also extend to 7:30am to 7pm.

White Rim and Mineral Bottom Road

As many of you may remember last fall a major rainstorm hit Canyonlands and washed out the Mineral Bottom Road. This road is a major access and exit point for the White Rim Trail. The White Rim is a must do if you are looking for a great backcountry experience in the Moab area. The views from the White Rim rival some of the best scenery in the world. Well after the Governor of Utah got involved to hurry the process of getting the road fixed. We are excited to announce that the road will reopen on March 29, 2011. The road is actually done two months sooner then anticipated. This is great news for spring outdoor enthusiasts. If you are looking for a great few days in one of the most beautiful and remote places in the lower 48 then this is the trip for you.

Now that we are in November all thoughts for me go to Thanksgiving. Not just for the food, but also it is a time to look back over the past year and count my blessings and all that I am thankful for.

At Canyonlands Jeep we are very thankful for the customers that we have had this year and the ones that return each year. Onion Creek Trail to Gateway Colorado with Yokohama

The first couple of weeks of October we were busy at Canyonlands Jeep! Some of the reps from Yokohama Tire Company came out to jeep and put their tires to use. One of the trips was on a trail called Onion Creek.

Onion Creek has some great views and scenery and actually crosses thru a creek bed around 27 times. Usually the water is only an inch or 2 deep, but this year we have had a little more rain than normal. You can tell by the mud on the jeeps that we all had a fun day.

The day progressed with more jeeping, pictures and lots of laughter. We enjoyed time for photo ops and as you can tell some of us are more into than others.

For me personally, it was a nice day to enjoy some off roading and take some great scenery shots.

After we finished on the Onion Creek trail we went up over the mountain and dropped into Colorado to Gateway Canyons Resort www.gatewaycanyons.com . It was a nice mid point of the day. We had lunch there at the Paradox Grille and then a trip to Gateway Colorado Auto Museum. If you are looking for a great day trip close to Moab this one is definately a place to consider. Even if your not a car buff like I am the collection of different cars is amazing.

Autumn activites in Moab

Finally we are seeing some cooler fall weather. Even noticed some of the leaves are starting to change, maybe need a weekend day trip to the La Sals to get some photography in before the colors are gone.

This month in Moab there is plenty to do. Starting with this weekend there is the 24 hours of Moab and on the 17th is the Other Half Marathon. Saturday the 30th of October is the Annual Pumpkin Chuckin' Festival and that is always a great time!

We have lots of jeep availability towards the end of the month. It would be nice to see some return customers for the Fall!

Trail Updates

For everyone who enjoys the White Rim Trail, be advised that the Mineral Bottom Road switchbacks have been washed away due to the heavy rains that Moab had during the "monsoon season". The White Rim is drivable to Potato Bottom from the Shafer/Potash side, but then you would have to back track the same way out.

The Needles District of Canyonlands National Park also has had trail damages that will require road crews to make the repairs. Elephant Hill Trail has been re-opened as of September 7th.

There are still so many wonderful trails close to Moab that you could go out on and have a great day 4 wheeling. Give us a call and rent a jeep for some fun Fall activites.

It is Labor Day 2010 and the weather is beautiful in Moab. Labor Day signals the end of Summer for many, but there are still so many things to do and enjoy in Moab. We are currently in the midst of the 18th annual Moab Music Festival. You could four wheel around some of the area trails during the day and then go to one of the evening concerts with world class musicians.

Reserved a Jeep Rubicon online about month before the trip. Very easy. Showed up the night before the rental day and they let me take it home the night before so I could start out early. Jeep was in good shape, clean, and ready for trails with good tires and a lift. They gave me maps of the trails and the jeep ran great. Very easy process and the people were friendly. I will definitely be back to Moab and rent a jeep again from the Adventure Center. We also did a half day rafting trip with them and it was just as easy and professional. I highly recommend the Adventure Center.

WIND CAVES

I will be the first to admit that I do not get out exploring as much as I use too. With a 2 year old and twin 1 year olds it is a major ordeal just to go to the grocery store. This weekend my wife's brother and his family came down for a visit. Trying to figure out something to do we decided to go to the wind caves. This is a great place to explore with kids and just like anywhere you go out here the scenery is amazing. I decided to take one of our new Rubicon 4 doors just to see how it ran and to see what it could do. We loaded up the car seats and took off on our adventure. As we headed out I must say we were all really impressed with how the Rubicon handled, it was very comfortable and fun to drive. As we headed out it was a great day for being in the back country, traveling down Kane Creek, we stopped at the parking lot for the tombstone a popular place for basejumpers. There were a lot of cars but no basejumpers were jumping. We also stopped and looked at some petroglyph panels that are in the area and then headed out to Hurrah Pass. At 4870 feet you have some great views of the surrounding area. As we headed out again it the road was just rough enough that we were glad we had the Jeep, but not scary enough to make my wife freak out with the kids in tow.

We made it to the wind caves and set up a great picnic lunch on a natural rock table out. We then spent a few hours exploring the rocks and all the natural caves in this huge rock outcropping. It was a great afternoon, if we had left a little earlier we would have drove out to chicken corners which is very beautiful overlook, looking towards Dead Horse Point. After spending some time out there we turned around and made our way back to town. I think we were gone about 4 hours and it was a nice drive. Here are some pictures of our trip. MAR 27-29 Moab Muni Fest 2009

“MUni” is short for Mountain Unicycling. “Fest” is short for Festival, and that’s what the Moab MUni Fest is all about. It’s a time to break the winter cabin fever and get out to the pleasant March climes of Moab; to ride and socialize with other MUni riders in the scenic red rock wonderland of Southern Utah. It’s a place to test and expand your limits, hone your skills, and learn new techniques from other riders. The entire Slickrock area is red sandstone rock, which means you’ll have traction to climb and descend angles you never thought possible. The landscape is a trials course. For non-trials riders it’s just as much fun figuring out how to avoid the obstacles. In either case there’s plenty to keep you entertained. APRIL 4-12 Easter Jeep Safari

Easter Jeep Safari consists of trail rides, mostly day long trips, departing from Moab throughout this week long event. The official event is hosted by the Red Rock 4-Wheelers Inc. the local four wheel drive club of Moab. Participants provide their own four wheel drive vehicle, take care of their own food and non-alcoholic beverages for the trip. The club officially runs approximately 9 different trails every day, with "Big Saturday" culminating in the largest ever single trail ride departure happening - around 30 groups line up in down town Moab to head off in every direction for 30 different trails! Pre-registration for this event is recommended, although limited registration at the event may be possible. Delicate Arch Road Closure

Delicate Arch Road Closure Scheduled

The park road to the Delicate Arch Trailhead, the Wolfe Ranch District and the Delicate Arch Viewpoint will be closed from Monday, Feb. 2, 2009 to Thursday, February 12, 2009 for major road work. There will be no access to the area by foot or by vehicle.

The road closure is necessary for the installation of culverts where Salt Valley Wash intersects the paved road. This area was the site of extensive flooding in the fall of 2006. The improved drainage system should prevent future road closures due to heavy rain.

Visitors wishing to enjoy the silvery light of the full moon during this time period are encouraged to explore the many other spectacular opportunities available in the park. Consider a moonlit stroll in the Windows Area, Balanced Rock or the lower trailhead for Park Avenue (Courthouse Towers parking lot). Inviting trails and open slickrock make for particularly magical evening.

Park officials understand that many late winter visitors will be disappointed at not being able to access Delicate Arch, but hope they take advantage of the fantastic landscape and other massive arches that make this park a favorite.

Park staff are looking forward to the 2009 season with increased educational opportunities including Junior Ranger and family activities with those for limited time in the park along with guided hikes and the popular Fiery Furnace Tours.

When we started this business a few years ago we wanted to do a few things- 1. Provide a way that we could stay in a place we love. 2. Find a way to provide employment for some of the citizens that could become year round, so they can stay here as well. 3. Be able to give back to the community.

Now let me explain a little bit, Moab is a tourist town and most of the jobs are tourist related. Once the season ends many people are without jobs and have to go on unemployment and still struggle to get by. We wanted to be able to provide some jobs for people that they can rely on year after year. I think we have accomplished this in a small scale and hopefully as we grow we will be able to provide for more families in our area. We also wanted to give back to the community, we have not been able to give a lot but we try to give where we can. The other day a lady came in and thanked us for a donation that we made to the local teen center and how if it were not for the teen center she would not be able to work. This made us feel good of course and then we realized that we were helping to provide care and support for this family year round by supporting something that helped others in the community sustain their lives.

We were also able to give a donation to a family that was struggling to cover the medical costs of a family member that had been diagnosed with breast cancer and even though our donation was small hopefully it will help a little.

And for something fun we sponsored a local girls tball team. Team Canyonlands Jeep Adventures.

One of the reasons why I wanted to blog about this is that I think it is important for people to know what you stand for. Yes, it may be a little prideful to toot your own horn, but you have quite a few choices of who you can rent your next vehicle from and I justed wanted to point out that when you rent from us you are helping us do something we love as well as helping our families, but more importantly you are helping us with our mission of helping those around us. 2008 Rubicons are here!

We have not even updated our webpage yet with this new and exciting news. Canyonlands Jeep Adventures has just purchased 4 new Rubicons and have added then to our fleet. You can reserve them today! These good looking Jeeps and are sure to rent fast, so if you would like explore the backcountry in when of our new Rubicons you are going to need to reserve as early as possible. We had one on the lot for about 12 hours and then it was rented out and the others are being prepped and are getting ready for the line right now. Pictures will be coming soon.

CAR SHOW 2008

One of the best events in Moab is quickly coming. The annual Car Show is April 25, 26, 27, 2008. If you are looking for a great reason to come to Moab this is it. The car show features some of the nicest hot rods in the west and is quickly becoming one of the premier events in the state of Utah for classic car shows.
Here is the perfect itinerary for your car show weekend-

5. Saturday Morning go to the car show at the park and check out all the great cars. Afternoon go back out on the trail and have some fun, that evening come back into town and watch the cars. It is a ton of fun, it is like a scene out of the movie American Graffiti.
6. Sunday if you have time do another trail.

Jeeping with the Seniors

Canyonlands Jeep Adventures was asked by the Moab Chamber of Commerce and the Red Rock 4 Wheelers to participate in their annual Senior Citizen Aperciation Day. So of course we said OK and then we headed out to Fins and Things for a fun afternoon of 4 wheeling. It was a great event, the Moab Seniors are tough many of the obstacles had the drivers a bit stressed but it did not phase seniors at all. The weather was a bit cool but we still had a lot of fun. Here are some photos from our trip.

The whole goal of our website is to give you as much information as possible so your stay in Moab will be memorable one, and of course so you will rent a vehicle from us. We have added a new feature to our website, we would like you to email us your opinions about our site such as: Is it easy to navigate? Easy to read? Did we have the information that you are looking for? What can we do to make it better?
Also, if you have rented a Jeep or other vehicle from us we would like to know about your experience with us. Did we make all your wildest dreams come true? What can we do to better serve you? London to Moab? No Problem

Everyone knows how big a bargain the US is right now for people living in European Countries. This is great, but most do not realize how easy it is to get to Moab. Most people when they call to inquire about traveling to our part of the world they think that it takes a month just to get here. They think they have to fly in a plane to New York or Los Angeles, rent a car and drive to Las Vegas lose the family fortune, and then continue on to Moab or do the Grand Circle. Not anymore. You can be in Moab in about a day leaving from Heathrow and flying directly to Denver International and then catching a flight from Denver to Moab. Its that easy! Then when you get to Moab your vehicle that you rented from us is here and you are free to go where you want and the best part is you are in the middle of the Grand Circle. From Moab you are in a central location to travel to Lake Powell, Mesa Verde, Hovenweep, All 3 districts of Canyonlands, Arches, Natural Bridges, you have a week worth of exploring all from Moab. The best part about this is that it only took two flights, three if you are coming from Europe. Now for the key to the whole mystery of how do I make this happen? THE SMOG! RUN

Last week we had to run up to Salt Lake City to see our families. I really like Salt Lake in small doses and it has a lot of stuff going on up there, and not to mention all the people. But as my wife and I drove down Spanish Fork Canyon we rounded a bend and the smog layer was so thick it looked like a scene out of a movie where it had been bombed all night and all there was left was this thick layer of smoke. It was really quite disgusting. My mom who is a school teacher in SLC has not been able to let her kids go out at recess due to the bad air quality. I have to admit the sunsets over the west mountains are amazing with all the smog in the air. Another thing we noticed is that it was 12 degrees cooler in the valley then it was at the top of Soldier Summit which is 7477 ft, I think SLC is around 4500 ft. It was down right cold in the valley.

Well after we did our shopping, family mingling we came home it was amazing to watch the outside temp guage come up as went up Spanish Fork Canyon and continue to rise all the way to Moab. When we left Salt Lake it was 23 degrees at 12:00 pm when we arrived in Moab it was 48 degrees and sunnyat 3:30pm. I guess the whole reason for my blog today is if you need a little sun therapy and who doesnt, as well as a little peace and quiet come to and visit us in Moab. The restuarants are starting to reopen in anticipation of the half marathon coming up in March as well as Jeep Safari. Our town is perfect right town (in a Mayberry kind of way) and most of the trails are open. Remember to look at our internet specials link for discounted rates off our all ready great rates. We are super excited about a new airline that has come to Moab. Now you can fly directly from Denver to Moab and back if you want. They are a great airline and are dedicated to providing great service to the Moab area.

Remember that if you do fly in and have a vehicle reserved with us for more then three days we will come out and pick you up at the airport for FREE. Also ask us about dropping the vehicle at the airport when you leave town.

Has Spring Sprung?

After a long hard Moab winter, it looks as though the end may be in sight. I have lived in Moab for 14 years and this was the first year that I wished I owned a snowshovel. While many of you were shoveling the snow off of your driveways or wherever I was sweeping the snow off of mine. In my mind I kept saying if I have to sweep my driveway one more time I am going to scream. Well, I think the snow gods heard my cries, because today the sun has come out and it is warm. I have been walking around outside in a t-shirt and it has feels great. The good news is that it is suppose to continue for the next week. Right now at in downtown Moab at 4:30 pm it is 50 degrees, and these temperatures are suppose to continue for the next week. If you are looking at a great time to come down this is the time. The town is empty, the National Parks are empty, Hotel rooms are cheaper they will be in a few weeks, Jeeps are cheaper then they will be in a few weeks. But the best part is the scenery right now is breathtaking! Arches and Canyonlands in the snow is something that most people never see for themselves unless it is in a picture or on a postcard. Now is the time to come down and get away from those mounds of white stuff that everytime you see it, it makes your back hurt. NEW FJ CRUISER

It has finally arrived, we picked up the 2008 FJ Cruiser. We are really excited about it, in fact we keep driving it around and have started fight amongst ourselves to see who gets it, when it is not out on the trail. The FJ is a great vehicle it has a ton of space inside and is perfect for those looking at being on the trail, without having to worry about the sun beating down on you. It has A/C, stereo with MP3 jacks, comfortable seats, onboard compass/temp guage.
If you are looking for a vehicle that you can go out and see the area in and not have to worry about leaving your personal stuff out in the open while you are out hiking then this is what you are looking for. This would also be a great vehicle for Mountain Bike support trips on the White Rim, Maze, or the Needles.

Whats Going on in Moab this year?

We get a lot of people who call us and ask us whats going on that's fun in Moab. We love the questions and talking to you, but we thought why not put in on our blog. So here is a run down of what is going on this year. Event wise. Please still call though.

Feb. 15 - 18 Western Stars Cowboy Poetry Gathering Michael Martin Murphey President's Day weekend western celebration with cowboy poets, music, barrel racing, chili cookin' contests, square dancing, western art, vendors, workshops and lectures.

Feb 13 -15 President's Day Weekend Great weekend to get out of the snow. Come and rent a Jeep (shameless plug)

March 1-4 Annual Skinny Tire Festival The four rides of the Skinny Tire Festival highlight Moab’s different road riding opportunities. The first two days follow the mighty Colorado River corridor, both up-stream and downstream. The next two days leave the valley and climb the beautiful canyon roads into red rock country to Dead Horse Point and through Arches National Park. Channel the energy of riding through this grandeur of Moab’s canyon country by putting purpose behind your cycling. This event raises funds for The Lance Armstrong Foundation whose purpose is to eliminate cancer from the planet.

March 7 - Last day to reserve the new FJ Cruiser for $170 per day (hint- see our internet specials page for more details)

March 8 - 33rd Annual Canyonlands Half Marathon and Five Mile Run

March 15 - 23 Jeep Safari Easter Jeep Safari consists of trail rides, mostly day long trips, departing from Moab throughout this week long event. The official event is hosted by the Red Rock 4-Wheelers Inc. the local four wheel drive club of Moab. Participants provide their own four wheel drive vehicle, take care of their own food and non-alcoholic beverages for the trip. The club officially runs approximately 9 different trails every day, with "Big Saturday" culminating in the largest ever single trail ride departure happening - around 30 groups line up in down town Moab to head off in every direction for 30 different trails! Pre-registration for this event is recommended, although limited registration at the event may be possible.

March 23 EASTER

April 24 - 27 Car Show Hot Rods, Trucks, Customs, Street Rods, Muscle Cars, Classics, and much more! This is one of the best weekend in Moab. Something that is a must for every car enthusiast.

May 24 - 25 Annual Moab Art Festival Swanny City Park (400 North 100 West)

May 26 Memorial Day This is a very popular weekend in Moab - Jeeps are all ready starting to sell out. If you are coming to Moab this weekend you must rent your Jeep early oh yea, go rafting too. Check out moabadventurecenter.com for details
